Time Between Dates Calculator.
Need to work out how many days are between two dates, or the exact number of hours and minutes between two times? Use this free Time Between Dates calculator to get an instant result, including totals in days, weeks, hours, minutes, and seconds.
This calculator is useful for planning project timelines, counting down to an event, working out time gaps between appointments, and checking elapsed time between two timestamps.
Time Between Dates
Enter a start and end date (and optional times) to calculate the exact time difference in days, weeks, hours, and more.
How to use the calculator
- Choose a Start date.
- Choose an End date.
- (Optional) Add Start time and End time to get an exact time difference.
- The results update instantly. Use Reset to start again.
If you leave times blank, the calculator assumes 00:00 (midnight) for that date.
What the results mean
- Calendar difference: A “human” breakdown in years, months, and days, plus a time component. This is calendar-aware, meaning month length and leap years are handled properly.
- Total days / weeks / hours / minutes / seconds: A straight “elapsed time” view, useful for scheduling and estimating.
Note: totals are calculated in your device’s local time zone. If your date range spans a Daylight Saving Time change, the total hours may not match a simple “days × 24” calculation.
Examples
Example 1 (dates only):
Start date: 1 March 2026
End date: 15 March 2026
You’ll see the elapsed time in total days and weeks (and the calendar breakdown).
Example 2 (dates and times):
Start: 10 April 2026 at 09:30
End: 12 April 2026 at 17:00
This is helpful when you need exact totals in hours and minutes, such as shift planning or event timing.
Common use cases
- Calculating the time between two appointments
- Working out the time between project milestones
- Checking elapsed time between order and delivery (where you have timestamps)
- Planning travel and events by comparing date and time ranges
FAQs about Time Between Dates Calculator
How do I calculate the time between two dates?
Select a start date and an end date. The calculator instantly shows the elapsed time in days, weeks, hours, minutes, and seconds.
Can I include times as well as dates?
Yes. Add start and end times for an exact result. If you leave a time blank, it defaults to 00:00 for that date.
Why do total hours sometimes look unusual around DST?
When the clocks change, a day can be 23 or 25 hours in local time. If your range crosses that boundary, the total hours reflect real elapsed time in your time zone.
Does this calculator count both dates as “included”?
This tool calculates elapsed time from start date/time to end date/time. Inclusive day counting is a different method and is not the same as elapsed time.
Will this work on mobile?
Yes. On smaller screens, the fields stack vertically, and the calculator updates instantly.
